Prof. Liljana Stevceva holds a medical degree from the University Kiril I Metodi, Skopje, Macedonia and a PhD from John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University. She went to USA on invitation of University of Maryland’s Institute of Human Virology to join efforts in developing HIV vaccine. In 2000, she was awarded Fogarty International Fellowship and joined the National Cancer Institute, NIH where she continued her work on HIV pathogenesis and vaccine development. She held faculty positions at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital and was a founding faculty of The Paul Foster School of Medicine, California Northstate University College of Medicine and founding faculty and Director of the Division of Microbiology at the University of Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine.

Her research experience ranges from basic bench research to translational research and to clinical trials. In addition to basic research Dr. Stevceva served as a Medical Officer at the Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIH and as a Medical Officer and Senior Advisor for PATH. Dr. Stevceva serves as a reviewer for 17 international, peer-reviewed journals, three granting agencies and four international conferences. She is on the Editorial Board of three international journals. Dr. Stevceva also currently serves as a co-chair of the Science and Human Rights Coalition of the American Academy of Advancement of Science in the Education and Information Resources Committee. Dr. Stevceva is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and American Academy of Advancement of Science and is listed in ‘Who is Who in America’ and ‘Who is Who in The World’ publications since 2006.

Dr. Natalia de Val serves as the Director of the Electron Microscopy Laboratory (EML) and as the Head of the Cryo-electron microscopy component of the Center for Molecular Microscopy (CMM) (https://cmm.nci.nih.gov/), located at the Advanced Technology Research Facility (ATRF) in Frederick.

Dr. de Val received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Leuven, Belgium, and did postdoctoral work at UC-Berkeley and the Pasteur Institute in Paris.  From 2012-2016, she played a key role in groundbreaking studies at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla (CA) defining the structure of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein complex bound to neutralizing antibodies.  This work used cryo-EM to provide important insights into HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein function and neutralization.  During this time, she also contributed to structural analysis of the Ebola virus glycoprotein. Before relocating from California to Frederick, Dr. de Val served as Principal Scientist at NanoImaging Services Inc., where she led cryo-EM studies for numerous clients, including pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. de Val brings extensive expertise in all aspects of the cryo-EM workflow, including sample preparation and image analysis, and has a strong background in collaborative research.

Dr. Sanjay Rathod completed his PhD at the NIV, Pune (INDIA), focusing on the function of T regulatory cells in hepatitis E virus infection. After his PhD, he worked in a private organization developing inhibitors for immune-checkpoint and ROR-γt for treatment of cancer/autoimmune diseases. His leadership roles included teaching and mentoring students. He joined Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh as a postdoctoral research associate in December 2016. His projects involve improving the treatment of pediatric ALL by limiting adverse drug reactions and attaining therapeutic drug exposures. Currently, Sanjay mainly focuses on asparaginase (ASNase), which is among the main drugs used for the treatment of pediatric ALL. Immune responses to ASNase are the most common toxicity of the drug, and, moreover, patients that develop anti-ASNase antibodies during treatment have a higher risk of relapse. Therefore, he is identifying the mechanism of hypersensitivity and an immune response.

Dr. Christian Furlan Freguia brings more than 10 years of experience in the R&D sector, both in academia as well as in industry. Currently, he is Director of research at Synthetic Biologics, Inc., where he leads several preclinical programs, including development of biologics to modulate the gut microbiome. In his previous positions, he actively worked on both small molecule and biologics, developing projects from early phases to IND. His work had been published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals and also on scientific magazines, he is the inventor on issued patents and patent applications, and he has received several awards for his work. Dr. Furlan Freguia earned a PhD at the University of Ferrara (Italy) and received fellowship from The Children`s Hospital of Philadelphia and The Scripps Research Institute. 

Dr. Anurodh Agrawal completed his Master’s program from Tezpur University, India, in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. He joined the Ph.D. program from Jadavpur University in Virology where he worked on rapid screening of many respiratory viruses from clinical samples using multiplex real-time PCR and adaptation of these viruses in cell culture system. During his course of Ph.D., his findings were presented at many national or International conferences. He studied Host-Virus Interaction focused on Influenza viruses and tested different natural antiviral compounds for its prophylactic and therapeutic efficacy. Later, he joined Duke University, the USA as a postdoc to study on antibody diversification and the major repair pathways. He joined a research lab in UTMB, USA for his second Postdoc to gain expertise in viral immunology and molecular virology, and work on generating the very first transgenic mice model used these mice for vaccine development and therapeutics against MERS-CoV.

Dr. Anthony Chua obtained his PhD in Virology at the National University of Singapore. There he designed, developed and filed a patent (as co-inventor) on a broad-spectrum antiviral biologic for treatment of flavivirus infections.

He was also part of an international team which identified the first West Nile virus infection in Sri Lanka. Dr. Chua was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore under Professor Ng Mah Lee. There he elucidated molecular mechanisms underlying Dengue disease pathogenesis and developed new biomarkers for prognostication of the disease.

Dr. Dzana Dervovic received Honours B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences, Waterloo, Canada and PhD in the Department of Immunology , University of Toronto, Canada. She joined Mount Sinai Hospital, LTRI, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in December 2015 as a senior Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research focuses on leveraging functional genomics to identify new immune regulators in solid cancers by using lung and skin cancer model. Her goal is to develop a novel immunotherapy for Non-small-cell-lung cancer (NSCLC) by direct in vivo gene editing of target genes associated with mediating resistance to immune cell responses in NSCLCs and other solid cancers.

Dr Catherine Heffernan is Principal Advisor for Commissioning Early Years , Immunisations and Vaccination Services at NHS England (London Region). By background she is a consultant in public health, with specialisms in immunisations, child public health and sexual health. She also holds a honorary senior clinical lectureship at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. In the past, she's held lectureships in public health at University of Leeds and University of Oxford, where she is also an alumnus. 

Dr. Miodrag Stamenkovoc has held a position with the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency of Serbia since 2015. He works in the field of Regulatory Assessment - Medicines Safety and Efficacy.

Fernando Aranda holds a Biology and a Biochemistry degree from the University of Navarra. He then specializes in different strategies of immunotherapy in cancer with a Master degree in Cellular & Molecular Biology and a Ph.D. from the University of Navarra - Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA), Pamplona. I am a very motivated clinical scientist with highly developed multi-tasking, organizational, and communication skills (both written and oral) and a particular talent to make things look simple.
